Legal Case and Sentence
In December 2022, the Bale Bandung District Court sentenced Doni Salmanan to four years in prison and fined him IDR 1 billion. This punishment was handed down after he was found guilty of fraud, violating the Information and Electronic Transactions Law (ITE), and money laundering.
However, in February 2023, the Bandung High Court increased his sentence to eight years in prison. In addition, Doni Salmanan was ordered to pay compensation to his victims as part of a ruling aimed at impoverishing financial crime perpetrators.
Rejected Legal Appeal
Not stopping there, Doni Salmanan filed a cassation appeal to the Supreme Court in mid-2023. Unfortunately, this appeal was rejected in October 2023. Thus, Doni is required to serve the full eight-year sentence as ruled by the Bandung High Court.
When Will Doni Salmanan Be Released?
Based on the eight-year sentence issued in February 2023, Doni Salmanan is expected to be released in February 2031. However, this release date could be earlier if he qualifies for remission. Remissions are typically granted to prisoners with good behavior during their incarceration, particularly on significant occasions such as Independence Day or major religious holidays.
Impact of the Case
Doni Salmanan’s case serves as a crucial lesson on the risks of illegal investments and binary option schemes. The government and financial authorities have intensified efforts to educate the public about avoiding similar fraud tactics.
Meanwhile, many victims are still awaiting justice and the return of their lost funds. The legal process to seize and distribute Doni Salmanan’s assets to his victims is still ongoing.
บทสรุป
With the current sentence, Doni Salmanan still faces a long time behind bars. The projected release in February 2031 may change depending on the remission policies applied. This case is expected to serve as a stern warning for the public to be more cautious of investments promising unrealistic returns.
